Computer Forensics is one of the largest growth professions of the 21st century. The soaring increase in the number of Internet users combined with the constant computerization of business processes has created new opportunities for computer criminals and terrorists. Not to mention the sexual predators that love to prey on children in educational settings. Study after study has consistently revealed that cyber attacks, hacking, and computer based criminal activities are costing businesses, governments and educators billions of dollars each year
Computer forensics involves the preservation, identification, extraction, and documentation of computer evidence stored as data or magnetically encoded information. The fascinating part of the science is that the computer evidence is often transparently created by the computer’s operating system without the knowledge of the computer operator. The information may actually be hidden from view. To find it, special forensics software tools and techniques are required.
My new endeavor is to learn more about investigating and fighting computer crimes. I’ll do this by studying, training and moving forward with establishing the required knowledge base to enter into this fascinating new field.
